Maintenance tips to extend the life of any scratching post
Regardless of certification, rotating the post's orientation every few weeks encourages even sisal or jute wear and prevents cats from concentrating damage on a single high-traffic face. Vacuuming loose fiber and debris from the base weekly also helps you catch early warning signs of wobble or wrapping wear before a cat abandons the post entirely.

For multi-cat households or destructive scratchers, the FSC-certified solid pine tower justified its higher price with genuine long-term stability and zero dust concerns. Budget-conscious owners should still avoid uncertified particleboard entirely — the dust and structural failure risks outweigh the savings within just a few months. The recycled cardboard scratcher is a worthwhile low-cost addition alongside a vertical post, not a replacement for one.
